The term "Taiping Shan" was translated from aboriginal languages of 𢘫iannau�.With an early development, the governor-general government of Taiwan has undertaken the lumbering of the forest in Mt. Taiping in 1914. Later on, forest railways leading to Tuchang was built on after another, finished in 1924. The first logging machine was adopted for operation. Ropeways and upland railways (so-called Bengbeng Cart nowadays) were started to set up while timberland was extensively lumbered, but the facilities were mostly torn down, only parts of ruins remain. The lumbering has stopped, and the afforestation has completely carried out to expect to restore the flourishing of forest.The elementary schools were set during the most thriving period of Mt. Taiping in Mt. Dayuan, Mt. Taiping and Tuchan, this proves the prosperity of the area.
